In a couple of months, it will be 10 years since the untimely passing of American singer/songwriter Warren Zevon at the age of 56. Best known for the song Werewolves of London, Zevon also had a commerical hit with Lawyers, Guns and Money which is, as far as we can tell, one of the few pop/rock songs to mention the country of Honduras (see lyrics below).

In a word, us. We happened. We came, we saw and we conquered. With our "conveniences", our vices and our money, we found paradise and very quickly started changing it. To be fair, we didn't try to or even necessarily want to, but we did.

The first time I visited Roatan, I planned the trip as a surprise for my family (six of us in total). I can still remember the delicate little dance I had to do juggling family member schedules, the availability of direct flights to Roatan (that didn't cost an arm and a leg), and the availability of the kind of lodging we wanted to stay in. It was complicated.

I was driving to our West End Roatan vacation rental house a few weeks ago when I suddenly noticed how quiet it was. So I decided to try the radio in my rental car, and much to my surprise, I was greeted by crystal clear sound and some great tunes. The station was 101.1 FM, Roatan Radio.
